Sulphur dioxide is used to bleach delicate substances like paper and clothes. In wineries, a mixture of $S O_{2}$ , water, and citric acid is commonly used to clean and sanitize equipment. Hence it can be used as a disinfectant.
Also, it is used as an antichlor to remove free (excess) and combined chlorine to chloride.

In $S O_{2}$ , the central atom exists in +4 oxidation. This means that with the right reagent, it could be oxidized to a higher(say +6) oxidation state. Also, it could be reduced to $H_{2} S$ under the right conditions.
