Food gets decayed mainly due to the decomposition activities of bacteria, fungi etc. Most microorganisms are generally destroyed at a high temperature when cooking but for storage, refrigeration is an option because, at a very low temperature, the microorganisms become inactive. Food substances need to be stored in dry areas because food stored shouldn't contain moisture which attracts microorganisms.
