Lucknow session of congress 1916:-

Readmission of Extremists to congress: various factors facilitated this reunion:-

1. Old controversies became meaningless now. Both moderate and extremists realized that split was harmful.

2. Annie Besant and Tilak had made rigorous efforts for the reunion.

3. Death of two main moderate opposition leader Gokhale and Pherozshah Mehta.

Lucknow pact between congress and Muslim league:

While the Muslim league agreed to present joint constitutional demands with the congress to the government, the Congress accepted muslim league’s position on separate electorate and hence the Lucknow session resulted into coming together of the Congress and Muslim League
