Solution

The correct option is A In relapse condition, IgM remains constant and IgG increases.
  • Relapse condition is where the signs and symptoms of the disease start to appear again after the treatment.
  • Brucellosis is a disease transmitted from animals to a human when they ingest animal organs or product which is not cooked properly.
  • Brucella the bacterium that causes the disease has developed resistance against macrophages and monocytes to protect itself from phagocytosis. IgM and IgG are secreted by the lymphocytes to fight against the antigen.
  • The bacterium sometimes after appearing or causing infection for the first time it takes macrophage-like cells as host and resides into them until appearing again to cause symptoms of the disease.
  • IgG which is the major immunoglobin is secreted to fight off the infection and its level are at the peak in the acute condition of the disease. So in relapse condition when the disease appears again the IgG appear again to fight off the antigen and more of them are also secreted as helped by the memory of the plasma cells which remember the antigen that has caused infected earlier.
  • There the answer B is correct
  • But also the answer option A is correct as in the acute condition IgG levels are more in the blood serum.
  • ELISA test is done to diagnose the level of IgG and IgM in brucellosis.
