Which of the following is not a function of the conducting zone of the respiratory system?
Gas exchange
The conducting zone of the respiratory system is made up of the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, and terminal bronchioles. Their functions are to filter, warm, and moisten the inhaled air, and to conduct it to the alveoli. The respiratory zone is the site of O2 and CO2 exchange with/from the blood. The respiratory bronchioles (branching from terminal bronchioles) and the alveolar ducts are responsible for small amounts of gaseous exchange, while the alveoli are responsible for most of the gaseous exchange.
