First a wax figure was made and it was covered with a clayshell. A tiny hole was bored through the clay and it was heated. On heating, the wax would melt and drain out. The sculptor would then pour molten bronze into the cast and allow it to cool down. This technique is popularly known as the lost-wax technique.
