Infertility could be caused due to defects present in the male or female or both. In case of males, there are several reasons for infertility. Some of them are mentioned below.
I. Cryptorchidism- the condition in which testes are unable to descend into the scrotum
II. Improper functioning of the thyroid gland.
III. Impotency- inability to erect and penetrate the penis into the vagina of the female
IV. Gonadotropin (LH, FSH) deficiency
V. Immotility of sperms- they are unable to move from vagina to the upper portion of the female genital tract.
VI. Absence, or blockage, or infection in accessory reproductive glands, etc.
Scrotum or scrotal sacs are the structures that house the testes outside the abdominal cavity. They provide a temperature lower than that of the body, necessary for spermatogenesis to occur. Injury to only the scrotum may not lead to sterility in males as long as the testes are safe inside.
