Connective tissue is classified into three types - loose connective tissue, dense connective tissue and specialized connective tissue.

Loose connective tissue has cells and fibres loosely arranged in a semi-fluid ground substance. Example: Adipose tissue and areolar tissue.

Dense connective tissue has completely packed fibres and fibroblasts. Example: Tendons and ligaments.

Specialised connective tissue cells are called so since they are different compared to other connective tissues. They perform special functions such as support and transport of materials to the body. Cartilages, bones and blood are the specialised connective tissue.
