Which of the following is not an example of mechanical waves?
Infrared waves
A mechanical wave is a wave which is not capable of transmitting its energy through a vacuum. Mechanical waves require a material medium in order to transport this energy from one location to another. A sound wave is an example of a mechanical wave as it needs material medium like air, water or solid. Sound waves are incapable of traveling through a vacuum. Slinky waves, water waves, stadium waves etc. are few more examples of mechanical waves. Now, infrared waves are the waves which do not require any material medium to travel as they are electromagnetic waves i.e. they do not require any material medium to travel. Sun is the primary source of infrared waves which travel through the vacuum.
