CO2 exists naturally in the atmosphere and does not cause the pH to be lower than 5.7 which is not much harmful. The other oxides directly or after oxidation produce H2SO4 and HNO3 and after mixing with water lowers the pH of the rain water to a value less than 4, which is very harmful.
