Which of the following is not true about breastfeeding?
Infant formula contains the same antibodies as found in breast milk
Mother’s milk is the ultimate source of nutrition for the new born baby. The initial milk, called the colostrum, is rich in nutrients and antibodies which protect the baby from infections till its own immune system is developed. No other supplement such as infant formula contains the antibodies found in breast milk. When infant formula is not properly prepared, there are risks arising from the use of unsafe water and unsterilized equipment or the potential presence of bacteria in powdered formula.
