“Saheli” is an oral contraceptive pill which is taken 'once a week'. It is the world's first non-steroidal contraceptive pill.

It increases concentration of estrogen in the body, which, in turn, reduces the secretion of FSH.

FSH is necessary for the maturation of the growing follicles. Therefore, if the secretion of FSH is reduced, then, there will be no maturation of the follicles surrounding the ovum. Ovulation will not take place and hence, no pregnancy.
