Solution

The correct option is C Bioreactors
The process of introducing DNA molecules into living cells (bacterial, plant or animal cells) is known as transformation.

Recombinant DNA is introduced into the host cell in several ways which are mentioned below:
  1. Vector-based method: One example of the vector-based method is the transfer of the plasmids containing the gene of interest to host cells (plant cells) using the bacteria, Agrobacterium tumifaciens. These organisms are able to transfer their plasmid (which has now been modified into a cloning vector containing the gene of interest) into the plant cells at the wound site. Also, disarmed pathogen vectors such as viruses are also used for gene transfer as they can introduce the nucleic acid intact into the host cell.
  2. Vectorless method: Here, DNA is introduced directly with the help of physical or chemical means. Micro-injection and gene gun method come under this category. Micro-injection is the technique of injecting DNA directly into the nucleus of the host cell (animal cell). Gene gun method uses micrometer-sized gold or tungsten particles coated with DNA which are accelerated into the host cells.

Bioreactors are large vessels which carry out biological reactions to produce large amount of products. Hence, it is not specifically used to introduce recombinant DNA into the host.
