Freons are basically chlorofluorocarbons. Due to their stability, it has a long lifespan in the atmosphere. When it reaches the ozone layer in upper strata of the atmosphere, it reacts with ozone molecules in presence of UV radiations and converts into stable oxygen molecules as a product. Hence, it depletes ozone layer by reacting with them.
