Which of the following is the basic unit of a nervous tissue?
Neuron
Neuron or nerve cells are the basic structural and functional units of the nervous system. These have a special structure but vary greatly in size and shape. Each neuron has a cell body which encloses the cytoplasm and a nucleus. It also has a number of short fibres called dendrons which receive messages from other neurons. The nephron is the structural and functional unit of the kidney whereas muscle cells and blood cells are present in muscle tissues and in blood respectively.
