Solution

The correct option is C

Mitotic proliferation, Meiosis, Packaging

In testes, the immature male germ cells (spermatogonia) produce sperms by spermatogenesis that begins at puberty. The spermatogonia (sing. spermatogonium) present on the inside wall of seminiferous tubules multiply by mitotic divisions and increase in numbers. Each spermatogonium is diploid and contains 46 chromosomes. Some of the spermatogonia after mitotic divisions, give rise to primary spermatocytes, that periodically undergo meiosis and finally form spermatids with 23 chromosomes. Production of extremely specialised, mobile spermatozoa from spermatids requires extensive remodelling or packaging of cell elements - a process known as spermiogenesis.
