Solution

The correct option is C Palea is the bracteole
In Gramineae, the gynoecium consists of a single compound pistil of two or sometimes three carpels and an equal number of styles with feathery stigmas. The basic unit of the inflorescence is called spikelets. The inflorescence is somewhat complex in this family. It is composed of several to many spikelets, which are combined in various manners on the main axis called rachis. The grass spikelet is defined by two sterile bracts at the base called glumes. Each flower in a spikelet of Graminae bears a bract lemma or the flowering glume which is sometimes awned at the tip and are bracteole called palea which fits within the lemma. Awn is a bristle-like an appendage especially on the glumes of grasses.
So, the correct answer is option C.
