To answer this question, Let's look at the properties of CO2.

CO2 is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas and is about 1.5 times heavier than air.

Unlike CO2 it is not poisonous in nature. However, it does not support life and animals die in it for want of oxygen.

CO2 dissolves in water to form carbonic acid (H2CO3) in very small amount, and most of the dissolved CO2 remains loosely hydrated.
CO2,therefore, is also known as carbonic anhydride.

Carbonic acid is a weak dibasic acid, highly unstable and thus cannot be isolated. It forms two series of salts, i.e. hydrogen carbonates and carbonates derived from the anions
