The thyroid gland is a large ductless gland in the neck which secretes hormones that regulate growth and development by controlling rate of metabolism. It is located at the base of the neck just below Adam's apple. Anterior to the thyroid cartilage of the larynx in the neck. The thyroid secretes 3 hormones; T3, T4 and thyrocalcitonin. Four parathyroid glands are on the posterior (backside) surface of the thyroid gland, one pair of parathyroid glands are present on each lobe of the thyroid gland. Thus, the correct option is D.
