Which of the following is true for electrochemical Daniel cell?
The half reactions of the redox reactions are:
Zn→Zn2++2e−Cu2++2e−→Cu
As zinc is oxidizing, it melts to form Zn2+ ions leaving the electrons on the rod which is transfered to copper rod reducing the Cu ions.
So, the electrons transfer from Zn rod to Cu rod.
So, the current flow exactly opposite to the electron flow i.e., from Cu to Zn rod.
As Cu2+ ions get reduced by accepting electrons, for this to happen Cu2+ ions should move towards Cu rod and accept electrons.
So, cations moves towards Cu electrode.
