The main kharif crop of Chattisgarh is paddy which is about 76 per cent of total kharif crops. Apart from it other main crops grown here are maize, soyabean, groundnut, urdbean and pigeon pea. Similarly main rabi crops grown here are wheat, gram, lathyrus, mustard and linseed.

Lathyrus is considered as drought-tolerant hardy crop, and is grown in low-rainfall regions under rainfed conditions, during winter when lentil and chickpea are not expected to give good yields. The crop has unique tolerance ability against stress environmental conditions not only drought but also for water logging.

छत्तीसगढ़ की मुख्य खरीफ फसल धान है जो कुल खरीफ फसलों का लगभग 76 प्रतिशत है। इसके अलावा यहाँ उगाई जाने वाली अन्य मुख्य फसलें हैं मक्का, सोयाबीन, मूंगफली, उड़द और मटर। इसी प्रकार यहाँ पर उगाई जाने वाली मुख्य रबी फसलें गेहूँ, चना, खेसारी , सरसों और अलसी हैं।

खेसारी को शुष्क-सहनशील फसल के रूप में माना जाता है, और कम वर्षा वाले क्षेत्रों में बारिश के मौसम में उगाया जाता है, सर्दियों के दौरान जब दाल और छोले की अच्छी पैदावार होने की उम्मीद नहीं की जाती है। इस फसल में प्रतिकूल पर्यावरणीय परिस्थितियों के खिलाफ न केवल सूखे बल्कि जल जमाव के प्रति भी अद्वितीय सहनशीलता की क्षमता है।
