Solution

The correct option is C Gel electrophoresis
The given image depicts the apparatus required for gel electrophoresis. It is a technique used to separate macromolecules based on their size and charge.
This is used in DNA fingerprinting for the separation of different DNA fragments generated after restriction digestion of the amplified sample DNA.
Being negatively charged, DNA migrates from the cathode (negative electrode) to anode (positive electrode). Size of the DNA fragment decides the distance that they travel through in the gel.
Heavy DNA fragments travel a lesser distance and settle down near the cathode while the lighter ones are found near the anode.

A technique by which the hybridised DNA fragments are observed using X-ray is called autoradiography. This technique also forms a part of DNA fingerprinting.

DNA sequencing technique is the process of determining the order of sequence of nucleotides in DNA.

Polymerase chain reaction or PCR is a technique used to amplify or create multiple copies of DNA.
