An electromagnet is a temporary magnet which is made up of current carrying coil wound around a soft iron core. The number of turns as well as the magnitude of current decide the intensity of magnetic field produced. More number of turns as well as inreasing the current flowing through the coil, increases the strength of the electromagnet. Soft iron core allows the magnetic field lines to pass through it easily leading to stronger magnetic field.
