Protists exhibit both sexual and asexual modes of reproduction. Among the asexually reproducing types, protozoans like Paramecium exhibit binary fission (both transverse and longitudinal). Slime moulds reproduce by multiple fission and by budding. Yet other forms alternate between asexual and sexual modes of reproduction, as required. Plasmodium, for example, completes its life cycle in two different hosts - mosquito and human. It reproduces sexually in mosquitoes and asexually in the human host.
