For a shadow to be formed, the light should be obstructed by the object so that the screen behind it stays dark. Since transparent objects allow light to pass through them, they can not form a shadow. An opaque object forms a dark shadow because it doesn't allow any light to pass through them. Translucent objects partially allow light through them and they form very faint shadows.
