Which of the following observations helped Hershey and Chase confirm that DNA is the genetic material?
Phage particles grown in a medium containing radioactive phosphorus could transmit radioactivity to the daughter phage particles.
Hershey and Chase used bacteriophage in their experiment to confirm that DNA is the genetic material transmitted. While Griffith discovered the existence of a “transforming principle”, he couldn’t identify its nature. Avery and his team worked further on this, and identified that DNA is the transforming principle. It was later that Hershey and Chase went ahead to re-confirm this using bacteriophage.
