Respiratory quotient is the ratio of $C O_{2}$ released to the $O_{2}$ consumed in order to metabolize a specific molecule. It is given by the formula RQ = $C O_{2}$ released/ $O_{2}$ consumed. For glucose it is 1 and for palmitic acid it is 0.696. so, statement X is correct. While glucose needs only 6 $O_{2}$ for respiration, palmitic acid needs 23 $O_{2}$ , so, the statement Y is incorrect. The chemical formula of glucose is $C_{6} H_{12} O_{6}$ and that of the palmitic acid is $C_{16} H_{32} O_{2}$ this indicates that the palmitic acid has less oxygen in its constitution than glucose. Thus, the correct option is C.
