Respiratory quotient is the ratio of CO2 released to the O2 consumed in order to metabolize a specific molecule. It is given by the formula RQ = CO2 released/O2 consumed. For glucose it is 1 and for palmitic acid it is 0.696. so, statement X is correct. While glucose needs only 6 O2 for respiration, palmitic acid needs 23 O2, so, the statement Y is incorrect. The chemical formula of glucose is C6H12O6 and that of the palmitic acid is C16H32O2 this indicates that the palmitic acid has less oxygen in its constitution than glucose. Thus, the correct option is C.
