Statement A is true and Statement B is false.

Sodium is a metal whereas chlorine is non-metal. They both have the same valency because sodium has one extra electron in its valence shell (i.e. $N{a}^{+1}$) and chlorine needs one electron for attaining stability (i.e. $C{l}^{-1}$). But they don't belong to the same group.
