Abscisic acid is a hormone that increase plants tolerance to stressful unfavorable conditions such as drought, waterlogging, high temperature, etc. They act as a growth inhibitor and inhibit seeds' germination, induce dormancy of seeds. They also regulate abscission and regulates closure of stomata.

Gibberellins accelerate the maturity period in juvenile conifers and auxins control the differentiation of xylem (the cells become specialized to perform a particular function) and cell division in plants.
