Monocarpic plants are those that flower, set seeds and then die. Usually annuals (a plant that takes a year to complete its life cycle) and biennials (plant that takes two years to complete its biological lifecycle) produce flowers only once in their lifetime. Hence, they are monocarpic plants. Although there are some perennials that flower only once in their lifetime and are therefore monocarpic, for eg. bamboo and neelakurinji. However these are rare exceptions, and most perennials produce flowers and seeds many times in their lifetime.
