Which of the following options represents the positive effects of friction?
It helps us write
It helps us walk
Friction is often called a necessary evil as it has both positive and negative effects. Some of the positive effects of friction are:
i. It helps us walk. It provides an opposing force when we push the ground, which helps us in moving.
ii. It helps us write. While writing, the nib of the pen rolls because of friction between the nib and the surface of the paper. This causes the ink to fall out on paper. Otherwise, the nib will slide off.
There are many other positive effects of friction as well such as lighting a campfire or lighting a match. Also, the major negative effect of friction is the physical wear and tear of objects and it's parts due to the heat which is often released as a result of friction between parts.
It is true that friction produces sound/noise but it is not one of the positive effects of friction.
