Which of the following organs acts as the reservoir of blood?
Spleen
The spleen is a large lymphatic organ and is about the size of a clenched fist. It is reddish brown in colour and situated in the abdomen behind the stomach and above the left kidney. The spleen stores blood and acts as a reservoir— the blood vessels of the spleen can expand significantly.
In humans, around 1 cup of blood is kept ready in the spleen, ready to be released if there is a significant loss of blood, after an accident or in case of a haemorrhage or in carbon monoxide poisoning.
