Solution

The correct option is D Hepatic caeca
The alimentary canal of a cockroach is divided into three regions: fore-gut, mid-gut and hind-gut.
The foregut starts with mouth present in head region, it leads to pharynx that further leads into oesophagus. Oesophagus opens into a wide sac for storing of food known as crop. Crop leads into gizzard. Gizzard or proventriculus helps in grinding of food.
It has an outer layer of circular muscles and inner layer of cuticle that forms chitinous teeth.
Mid-gut is a narrow tube of uniform diameter that includes hepatic caecae and malpighian tubules. Hepatic caecae are 6-8 blind tubules present at the junction of foregut and midgut of cockroaches which secrete digestive juices. These are internally lined by epithelium. In the alimentary canal of a cockroach, there are 100-150 yellow coloured thin filamentous malpighian tubules that help in excretion. They remove excretory wastes from the blood.
Hind-gut shows three regions: ileum, colon and rectum.
