The golgi apparatus is the major collection and dispatch station of protein products received from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Proteins synthesised in the ribosomes move into the rough endoplasmic reticulum and are packaged into vesicles, which then fuse with the golgi apparatus. Here, the proteins go through a maturation process after which they will be ready to be transported outside the cell or embedded within the cellular membrane.
