Solution

The correct option is D Wuchereria bancrofti
The given figure shows an individual with a gross deformity of immensely swollen legs. This is a symptom of filariasis or elephantiasis that is caused by the helminth worm Wuchereria bancrofti. These worms cause a long term but slow inflammation of the organs in which they reside, examples include the lymph vessels of the legs, genital organs, etc. This results in swelling in the limbs or genital organs due to restricted lymph flow and accumulation of fluids in the tissues. The disease is transmitted by the bite of the female Culex mosquito which carries the pathogen.

Human taeniasis is a parasitic infection caused by the tapeworm species, Taenia solium. Usually, tapeworm infections have no symptoms or mild symptoms which include digestive problems including abdominal pain, loss of appetite, weight loss, and stomach upset.

Liver fluke infection or fascioliasis, caused by Fasciola hepatica. The symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever, rash, difficulty in breathing, liver damage etc.

Amoebiasis is an infectious intestinal disease caused by the protozoan Entamoeba histolytica. The symptoms of this disease include abdominal cramps, stool with excess mucus and blood, mild diarrhoea alternating with constipation etc.
