During photosynthesis, carbon dioxide and water is used to synthesise carbohydrates in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll. And in the process oxygen is liberated. This is the only process in which oxygen is released into the atmosphere. Whereas carbon dioxide is released during the process of decomposition, respiration and combustion.
