In the light dependent reaction, the assimilatory powers, ATP and NADPH, are formed. These are utilised during light independent reaction and glucose is synthesised.

NADPH is utilised in the Calvin cycle to reduce the intermediates that form carbohydrates. NADPH donates protons and gets oxidised during the Calvin cycle.

Oxygen is evolved during photolysis of water but oxygen is not utilised during light independent reaction for the synthesis of sugars.
