Solution

The correct option is A

2H2+O2H2O

In a hydrogen fuel cell, hydrogen is filled in one chamber and oxygen in another. An alkali electrolyte like potassium hydroxide is filled in between these two chambers.

Hydrogen gets ionized in the presence of catalyst platinum powder. The ionized hydrogen enters the electrolyte.

Electrons from hydrogen reaches the external circuit through conducting wire and then to the oxygen chamber. In the oxygen chamber, the atoms receive these electrons and get ionised in the presence of nickel catalyst. The ionized oxygen enters the electrolyte.

In the electrolyte, hydrogen ions and oxygen ions combine to form water.

The overall reaction taking place in hydrogen fuel cell is: 2H2(g)+O2(g)2H2O(l)
