C C-iii-3
D D-iv-4
  • Heterotrophic organisms cannot produce their own food. They do not contain chlorophyll. Mango contains chlorophyll and can perform photosynthesis. Hence, it is an autotrophic organism.
  • Parasitic plants derive nutrition from another living plant called host. They have special roots called haustoria which can penetrate deep into host living tissue. E.g., Cuscuta.
  • Insectivorous plants feed on insects to fulfill their nitrogen requirements. Their leaves are modified to trap insects. E.g., Drosera, pitcher plant, etc.
  • Legumious plants, like pea live in symbiotic association with rhizobium. Plant provides shelter to the bacteria. In return, bacteria fixes atmospheric nitrogen for the plant.
