Cattle farming is performed for two purposes, milk and draught labour in the agricultural sector. Milk-producing animals, i.e., diary animals are called milch animals while the ones used for farm labour such as tilling, irrigation and carting are called draught animals. Jersey is an example of an exotic breed of cows. It is selected for long lactation periods. Sahiwal is an example of local breed of cattle. It exhibits excellent resistance to diseases.
