Autoimmune disorderoccurs when body attacks its own cells. Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disorder of the peripheral nerve fibres, wherein antibodies are formed against acetylcholine. These antibodies block, alter, or destroy the receptors for acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction which in turn prevents the muscle contraction from occurring.
