Which of the following statement(s) is/are correct when a mixture of NaCl and K2Cr2O7 are gently warmed with conc. H2SO4 ?
Chromyl chloride is formed
When a mixture of NaCl is heated with K2Cr2O7 in concentrated H2SO4, red vapour of chromyl chloride (CrO2Cl2) is produced. Vapours of chromyl chloride when passed through NaOH solution turns yellow due to the formation of Na2CrO4. Some chlorine gas is also evolved owing to the following side reaction:
6Cl−+Cr2O2−7+14H+→3Cl2(g)↑+ 2Cr3++7H2O
