Solution

The correct options are
A They are eco-friendly.
B They improve the quality of groundwater.

Excessive use of fertilisers and pesticides decreases the soil fertility over a period of time. They reduce the self regeneration capacity of the soil. Hence the soil is unable to naturally make up its nutrient content. The soil structure is destroyed by killing the soil microorganism that recycles nutrients in the soil. It also kills earthworms which are instrumental in making rich humus.

Hence, the use of a large amount of fertilisers and pesticides is not eco-friendly. The toxic chemicals present can seep down into underground waterbodies and deteriorate its quality too.
