When two forces act in the same direction, forces add up. Hence, pushing a block is easier when two boys push it in the same direction.

When two forces act in opposite directions, they oppose each other. The value of the net force is given by the difference of the forces. The direction of the net force is along the force having larger value. Hence, pushing a block is harder when two boys push it in the opposite directions.

If direction of a force is changed, it's effect changes entirely. For example, brakes stop the car while accelerator makes it go faster.

When more than one force is acting on a body, the net effect is due to the resultant of all the forces acting on it.
