Gopala Nayakar of Virupachi, Hyder Ali and the Marudhu brothers fought alongside Velunachiyar to win back Sivagangai. Dheeran Chinnamalai fought alongside Tippu Sultan against the British. When Tippu Sultan died, he built his fort Oodanilai and fought the British. He was eventually captured and executed.
