Based on the arrangement of the monomer units, plastics are classified into two types.
Plastic whose monomeric units are linearly linked are called thermoplastics. Plastic whose monomeric units are cross-linked are called thermoplastics. As you heat them up they get soft, so they can be shaped into any form you like, which also makes them easy to recycle.
Plastics are non-reactive in nature so they do not react with water and air. However, most conventional plastics are non biodegradable, and their increasing accumulation in the environment has been a threat to the planet.
