Secondary growth in dicot roots is very similar to that in dicot stem with respect to the events and structures formed. Vascular cambium in roots is secondary in origin. It is formed by cells of the pericycle lying below the primary phloem and outside the protoxylem. This gives rise to a complete and continuous wavy ring of cambium.
The activity of the cork cambium is also very similar to that in dicot stem. The cork cambium gives rise to cork on the outer side and secondary cortex on the inner side.
