Rate of loading also determines nature of metal. Ductile material can have substantial plastic deformation also.
Work by Bridgman showed that normally brittle materials can be made to behave in ductile manner if they are loaded under extremely high pressure. Practical use of this phenomenon is made in the commercial processing of extremely difficult to form metals and shapes.
