Images are formed when reflected rays meet or appear to meet.
There are two types of images- real and virtual.
If the reflected rays actually meet at a point, then the image formed is a real image and if the reflected rays appear to meet at a point then the image formed is a virtual image.
Real images can be obtained on a screen but virtual images cannot be obtained on a screen.
That is because in the formation of real images, the reflected rays actually meet. We can place a screen at the point at which they meet to get an image.
Whereas, in case of virtual images, the reflected light rays appear to meet but actually they don't meet. So, virtual images cannot be obtained on a screen.
