Detergents are cleansing agents. They are also used in the manufacturing of oil clear cosmetics and shampoos.

Soft soap consist of substance called lye (sodium hydrixide), which is gentle on the skin and keeps the skin moisturised. Thus, soft soaps are used in bathing and do not cause irritation to the skin.
Hard soap is used for washing and causes irritation to the skin due to the presence of strong chemicals in it which help in removal of tough stains.
